Research at Sea: Onboard the Norwegian Getaway

Travel agents may be known for selling travel, but the truth is, we spend a lot of time learning. We read articles, complete online trainings, and attend seminars so that we can get to know more about how to get our clients to the places they want to visit.

Those training opportunities are great, but there is only so much you can learn from viewing slides in a PowerPoint presentation.

KHM Travel and LoveShack Vacations agents are encouraged to expand their knowledge by having their own travel adventures. One way we can do this is by taking advantage of special discounted rates that many companies make available to those actively selling travel.

Learning about a destination, cruise line, or resort chain while sitting in a hotel meeting room is one thing, but experiencing it for yourself often results in a much deeper understanding of how to help your clients plan their own getaways.

Speaking of getaways … When Norwegian Cruise Line recently extended the opportunity to sail on what is currently their newest ship at sea, Norwegian Getaway, I quickly jumped at the chance. (Not that you ever have to twist my arm too hard to go on a cruise.) I have only been on one previous Norwegian cruise and it was on an older ship more than 12 years ago when their innovative “Freestyle Cruising” concept was just being introduced. A lot has changed since then, as ships have been built specifically to accommodate this newer style of cruising.

During my cruise I’m hoping to find out:

  • What makes “Freestyle Cruising” different from a more traditional cruise experience?
  • How does a Norwegian cruise compare to sailing on other cruise lines?
  • What helpful hints or travel tips can I learn, and then pass along to my clients?

I would love to have you sail along with me as I post live updates during the September 12 departure of Norwegian Getaway. You can see all of the action by following our accounts on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram. Bon voyage!
