When is it completely sane to willingly jump into freezing cold water in the dead of winter?
When it is for a good cause!
For the past few years, a handful of KHM Travel Group agents have teamed up with our partners at Carnival Cruise Lines to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge. Over the course of a week, roughly 10,000 brave “plungers” will take a dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland.
This year’s Polar Bear Plunge kicks off today and goes through Saturday, when the main plunges are held. KHM Travel Group agents will be participating in the corporate plunge with Carnival, which takes place on Friday.
KHM Travel Group Agent and Regional Development Coordinator Jimmy Fair has been involved with the event for three years. When our Carnival Business Development Manager Chris Schutz asked him if he’d be interested in joining Carnival’s efforts, he couldn’t refuse.
“Last year, I recall the air temperature was 22 degrees with a windchill of 8, and the water temperature was 38,” says Jimmy.
Each participant raises at least $100 to take the plunge, which happens at Sandy Point State Park near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
So far, a total of more than $1 million has been raised for Special Olympics Maryland.
Good luck to the KHM Travel Group team and our partners at Carnival who will be “freezin’ for a reason” this weekend!
