KHM Travel Agent Spotlight: Linda Anderson

KHM Travel Agent Linda Anderson started her travel business in 2013 because she wanted to be a positive part of others’ lives by helping them create happy memories. Appropriately, she decided to name her Michigan-based agency All Smiles Travel.

Of course, the road to building a business is not exactly all smiles. In her first year, she brought in $634 in commission. It took her a few years to build up her business, during which she discovered how much there was to learn. She emphasizes that becoming a travel professional was not just about customer service, but knowing the product. Without actually seeing the properties, this was difficult.

She attended several of KHM Travel’s Destination Success events, which helped her form strong connections with fellow agents.

“I owe a lot to those I reached out to for assistance,” adds Linda. “I have never met others that wanted to see you succeed in what you love.”

She’s been able to become familiar with more destinations and ships, and even had her own destination wedding at El Dorado Casitas in Rivera Maya, Mexico. She is also looking forward to a Viking River Cruise later this year, which she won.

Strong customer service eventually led to many referrals, which Linda says is the primary way she grew her clientele, along with Facebook.

Linda’s positivity and persistence prevailed, and in 2016, she reached our Pinnacle Elite Agent level. She says stepping outside her comfort zone and actually demonstrating confidence in her knowledge and expertise made all difference.

“My biggest hurdle throughout this whole thing is talking to new clients and not feeling confident in myself,” Linda says. “Just two months ago, I overheard some people at the table next to me in a restaurant talking about how they could not find a vacation package for spring break. I walked over and handed them a card. That is something I never imagined I would do.”

Not only has she expanded her business, she’s also developed close relationships with many of her clients. Some of them have become friends for life.

“Sometimes, I think I am more excited than the clients themselves,” she says. “I own the booking from beginning to end.”

Linda urges new agents not to give up. It may not have been a completely smooth ride for her, but it’s been 100 percent worth the time and energy because she loves what she does. In the end, her passion shines through, and translates into success.

“It took me 44 years to find the job that makes me feel whole,” says Linda. “KHM Travel Group and other KHM Agents have touched my heart and life, more than I ever thought was possible. My confidence in my career and in myself have changed because they believe in each other and in me, which made me believe in me.”

Sometimes, the journey itself is the reward. Linda’s story is an empowering example of that, and of the less-obvious benefits that are possible as an independent travel agent.
