Last month, Lisa Findura, KHM Travel Group’s Senior Vice President of Operations, and Beth Klubnik, our Events Operations Manager set sail on the Caribbean Princess for the Princess Cruises Executive Sales Forum. This event brought together leaders in the cruise travel industry to see firsthand what’s new with Princess Cruises and discuss how they can continue to develop resources and support travel agents.
Meet the OceanMedallion
The OceanMedallion is making waves! This innovative technology enhances the cruise experience and makes it easier than ever to enjoy every moment of a vacation. The OceanMedallion is a wearable device that allows cruisers to unlock their stateroom doors, pay for purchases onboard, and connect to onboard services. It is heat, sand, and salt-resistant as well as waterproof, so you don’t have to remove it no matter what adventures you are having.
The OceanReady app lets cruisers set up their profiles, take their security pictures and request their OceanMedallion. The OceanMedallion is shipped to cruisers one to three weeks prior to sailing, or guests can request to pick it up at the cruise terminal. The OceanMedallion works through a series of mobile apps, which cruisers can download before they board the ship. Best of all, these apps don’t require cruisers to have wi-fi to use them.
- OceanNow allows guests to request drinks, room amenities, and more while onboard.
- OceanCompass makes it easy to locate and chat with friends and family that are sailing with one another.
- PlayOcean is full of family-friendly and free interactive games that can be played on a phone or tablet.
- OceanView entertains guests as they watch free original travel shows in their stateroom or on mobile devices.
- OceanCasino lets guests wager real money and play casino games while onboard.
The Top Technology
In addition to the OceanMedallion, Princess Cruises is making it easier than ever for their guests to stay connected with MedallionNet. The Best Wi-Fi at Sea provides land-like connectivity, that unlimited and reliable, which guests can use to stream their favorites shows, movies, music, and sports from anywhere onboard. It also makes it possible to text, post photos, video chat, and more. This makes communication onboard a breeze and allows cruisers to reach out to those at home whenever needed. MedallionNet is available on several Princesses Cruises ships and will continue to be added to the fleet through 2020.
Looking to the Future
As the number of cruise passengers continues to rise, Princess Cruises will continue to grow and improve their fleet not only for those who cruise with them but also for the environment. They have set a goal to reduce single-use plastics across their fleet by 50% and are making changes to biodegradable options for many products.
They are also set to welcome two new ships in 2023 and 2025 that will be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG). This is the marine industry’s cleanest burning fossil fuel and significantly reduce air emissions when compared to diesel-powered ships.
