With every New Agent Boot Camp, the KHM Travel Group staff strives to fill each day with as much valuable information and skill-building as possible. Our third Boot Camp of the year, August 9-11, was no exception.
Bright and early Wednesday morning, 39 travel agents gathered at our home office in Brunswick, Ohio. On the first day alone, they got an introduction to each of the departments at KHM Travel Group and how they contribute to our agents’ success. There was a focus on our supplier relations team that morning, and later on they gained insight into how to choose the right supplier for their client.
Our Agent Development team also helped attendees develop a foundation for their agency through our Building on your Past & Passion, Building a Business Mindset and Marketing Mindset sessions. These presentations emphasize the essential knowledge, planning and professional skills each agent needs to be successful as a business owner.
“For a new agent just starting out in the travel industry, Boot Camp is a must do. It really helped me go from being overwhelmed with so much new information to giving me the confidence to use this information correctly and wisely,” says agent Juli, from Louisiana.
The agents’ homework for the first evening was to create a 30-second commercial or elevator pitch for their agency. The following morning, they had the opportunity to share their commercials and get feedback on how they can be improved.
The remainder of the day was heavily focused on cruising, with presentations from Kathy Killen, our BDM at Royal Caribbean International. After lunch, agents participated in a hands-on cruise booking workshop.
Two of the most important facets of running a travel business, Compliance and becoming familiar with myTravelCRM, wrapped up the rest of the afternoon.
Friday was no less jam-packed. Not only did agents get an in-depth look at the sales cycle, they also reviewed their geography knowledge of Mexico and the Caribbean.
After lunch, agents heard from our Preferred Supplier The Mark Travel Corporation on how best to sell their brands, and then had a hands-on booking workshop in VAX VacationAccess. After a short overview, we said farewell to the agents and sent them on their way!
“For anyone debating whether Boot Camp is worth it, IT IS! I’ve been booking travel for two years now…and I still learned A LOT,” says agent Wayne, “I gained so many tools to bring back home with me.”
We hope each Boot Camp agent left prepared to take their business to the next level, and establish themselves as true travel professionals! It was a pleasure hosting you, and learning more about your businesses last week.
